A recall has been announced for certain 2013 and 2014 Audi S6 and S7 models because of a potential fire risk. In April of this year, Audi started to receive complaints of fuel odors coming from the affected vehicles. After an investigation, Audi concluded that the fuel lines may become damaged over time.
“Due to manufacturing tolerance issues, a fuel line may leak fuel,” according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In the presence of an ignition source, this may result in a fire, the agency said.
The recall affects 3,594 Audi S6 and S7 cars in the U.S. Only models equipped with the 4.0-liter TFSI engine are affected. The models were manufactured between June 25, 2012 and May 29, 2013 and from May 23,2013 to Sept. 6, 2013.
To remedy the issue, Volkswagen–Audi’s parent company–will notify owners of the problem and replace the fuel line for free. The Audi recall involving S6 and S7 models is scheduled for late October, according to NHTSA. In the meantime, buyers can contact Audi of America at (800) 822-2834 or NHTSA at (888) 327-4236. You can also visit the NHTSA’s website.
In addition to the fire recall, Audi is also recalling certain A8 and S8 cars from the 2013 model year because the sunroofs may shatter, causing injuries to drivers and passengers. This affects around 1,120 cars with standard sunroofs. Audi has already started notifying owners, and the fix will be conducted for free.
